2024 Hana Bank K League 2 Round 7 Preview.

Match of the Round

Busan IPark (3rd) vs. FC Anyang (1st), Sat. 13th April - 16:30

Two of the division's promotion contenders go head-to-head this Saturday when third-placed Busan IPark host league leaders - and the only unbeaten side in K League - FC Anyang. What makes FC Anyang's achievements even more impressive is the fact that the Violets have played one game fewer than Suwon Bluewings in second and Busan in third. Busan head into the weekend having continued their pattern of win one, lose one. Last time out, Park Jin-sub's men came from behind to beat Cheonan City 4-2 thanks to a brace from Lim Min-hyuk and goals from Lee Dong-soo and Lee Han-do.

Some of the two teams' stats make for interesting reading. Busan are first for total shits with 99 while Anyang are 11th with 53 and per 90 it's 14.44 to 8.93 in Busan's favour. However, both score very highly when it comes to shooting accuracy with Anyang top with 43.4% and Busan second with 42.4%. Busan have the highest score when it comes to passes per defensive action against of 12.19, indicating that they are are a hard team to defend against and pass the ball well. Anyang, on the other hand, sit 13th in the league in this regard at 7.37. Anyang, though, have the lowest expected goals against value (xGA) so far this season at 4.77 with just two goals conceded.

Anyang have had the upper hand in this fixture over the last 10 meetings, winning five to Busan's three and two draws. However, it was Busan who won the two most recent meetings - 1-0 away in September last year and 2-1 at home in July.

Team of the Round

Suwon Samsung Bluewings (vs. Gimpo FC, Sun. 14th April - 16:30)

Suwon Bluewings' five goals against Jeonnam Dragons on Wednesday is the most scored by any K League 2 team so far this season and is on par with Super Match rivals FC Seoul's 5-1 win over Gimcheon as the highest in either division. The last time Suwon scored five in a K League match was back in July 2018, winning 5-2 at home to Incheon United in Round 18 of that season. The last time Suwon won by four goals or more in a K League match goes back to the 5-1 win over FC Seoul in April 2015. The emphatic win moved the Bluewings up to second place, just one point behind early pace-setters FC Anyang. The five-goal haul, however, doubled Suwon's goal tally and makes them the division's highest scorers. The Bluewings are second in terms of total shots, too, with 84, third per 90 with 11.94, and sixth for accuracy with 40.5%. Up next is the visit of Gimpo FC, a side that is looking to return to winning ways after a loss and two straight draws.

Player of the Round

Kim Do-yoon, Ansan Greeners (vs. Jeonnam Dragons, Sun. 14th April - 14:00)

Ansan Greeners number nine Kim Do-yoon netted deep into time added on against Chungnam Asan on Wednesday and sealed a vital three points for his team. With the opposition down to 10 men, Greeners gaffer Lim Gwan-sik looked to make the most of the man advantage, taking off a midfielder in Lee Ji-seung and sending on Kim Do-yoon. The decision paid dividends, earning the Green Wolves their second win of the campaign. It was the 26-year-old's first ever K League goal having made the switch from Paju Citizen in K3 to the Wa~ over the winter. Kim also scored a late winner in Ansan's FA Cup victory over Gyeongju KHNP in March. All six of his appearances for the club have come from the bench. The challenge for Kim now is to earn a spot in the starting lineup and add to his goal tally when Ansan take on a Jeonnam Dragons side that'll be licking its wounds following a 5-1 defeat to Suwon Bluewings on Wednesday.
