With a view to picking things up from the weekend of righting some wrongs, there's more midweek second division K League action coming up on Tuesday and Wednesday in Round 25 of the 2022 Hana 1Q K League 2 campaign. Gwangju FC take on Bucheon FC 1995 in a clash between two of the league's early promotion contenders; FC Anyang face Chungnam Asan looking to make it four straight wins, while Busan IPark and Kim Chan take on Gimpo FC looking to build on the win from the weekend.
Match of the Round
Gwangju FC (1st) vs Bucheon FC 1995 (4th)
Two of the league's promotion contenders meet this Tuesday when league leaders Gwangju FC take on fourth-place Bucheon FC 1995. When these two sides last met this season, back in Round 11 this April, Bucheon were top of the table by one point but a 1-0 win saw the Yellows leapfrog the Reds into top spot. This time around, Gwangju are nine points clear but are on a run of four matches without a win. Bucheon, meanwhile, picked up back-to-back wins heading into this one including a 2-0 home victory over Daejeon Hana Citizen in second. Said win puts the Reds within just one point of second.
Gwangju are second in K League 2 for headed shots (55) and have also had the most shots hit the woodwork (9). Left back Lee Eu-ddeum is the league's leading assist maker with six while Bucheon's Kim Ho-nam is fourth for the number of crosses made (75). Gwangju striker Heo Yool sits fourth for touches in the box per 90 at 4.6 while Bucheon's Samuel Nnamani is fifth at 4.55. The two sides have met three times already this season having gone up against each other in the FA Cup - Bucheon won 2-1 in the fourth round. Each team has earned a win in the two previous league meetings this term. A win for Gwangju would be most welcome for manager Lee Jung-hyo after four matches without one. A win for Bucheon, meanwhile, could move them up to second should Daejeon and Anyang drop points.
Team of the Round
FC Anyang
Three wins on the spin and unbeaten in four, FC Anyang now found themselves in third place following Saturday's 4-1 Line 4 Derby win over Ansan Greeners. After clawing back from 2-0 down at home to Daejeon to earn a 2-2 draw in Round 21, the Violets have three straight wins and with just one goal conceded. In the latest win, Anyang were two goals to the good inside 16 minutes with Maxwell Acosty on target after three minutes before Andrigo converted a penalty 13 minutes later. The two would go on to score another each, Acosty on 74 and Andrigo in the 90th. Despite the rich vein of goal-scoring form, Anyang have been one of the most frugal teams in K League 2 this term having despatched the third-fewest shots (223) but with the second-best accuracy (40.8%). The Violets tend not to shoot from outside the box having made the fewest shots from outside the 18 but sit third in the division for headed attempts on goal. Up next for FC Anyang is Chungnam Asan at home this Wednesday.
Player of the Round
Kim Chan, Busan IPark (vs. Gimpo FC)
Busan IPark moved off the foot of the table on Sunday following a 2-0 win over Chungnam Asan. Young striker Kim Chan had a huge hand in the win, scoring one and assisting one. His first goal contribution came via an assist for Lee Sang-heon on 56 minutes, turning and sliding the ball into the path of Lee who duly slotted home. His goal came on 83 minutes after showing great strength and tidy footwork before letting loose from the edge of the box. Kim is now on two goals for the season to set a new personal best. Up next for Kim and Busan is the visit of Gimpo FC on Wednesday night.
