This Saturday brings the final day of the 2024 Hana Bank K League 2 season. While FC Anyang have already secured the title and promotion to the top tier, the playoff places are all yet to be decided with five teams from a possible seven hoping to extend their seasons. All matches this Saturday, November 9th kick off at 2:00 PM KST and can be watched live on TV.KLeague.com.
FC Anyang (1st, C) vs. Gyeongnam FC (12th)
FC Anyang are 2024 K League 2 champions. The title was sealed last Saturday via a 0-0 draw away to Bucheon FC 1995, the Violets' second draw in succession. After two straight stalemates, then, Ryu Byeong-hun and his team will be aiming to end the season on a high and with a win to properly celebrate their success. Anyang face Gyeongnam FC at home, a side that is guaranteed to finish 12th in the table regardless of what happens on Saturday. The Roses suffered a 3-0 home loss to Seoul E-Land last time out so will be looking to bounce back, and try to emulate the 5-1 win over Seongnam FC from a couple of rounds ago - their first win in 13. The most recent meeting between the two teams ended 0-0, but the first of 2024 ended in a 1-0 Anyang win.
Seoul E-Land (2nd) vs. Jeonnam Dragons (5th)
Seoul E-Land are guaranteed to finish no lower than third and have already secured their best-ever finish to a season. But, the Leopards, following their win over Gyeongnam last time out and Chungnam Asan's loss to Suwon Bluewings, currently sit in second place and in the driving seat for the runner-up spot. Finishing second would mean facing 11th in K League 1 in the promotion-relegation playoff, avoiding the K League 2 playoffs altogether. But standing in the Leopards' way are Jeonnam Dragons, another side looking to win promotion via the playoffs. But Jeonnam must first secure a playoff spot.
The Dragons are fifth, occupying the final playoff place, but sit just a point above Busan IPark. Anything less than a win could spell disaster for the Dragons. Both teams earned 3-0 wins last time out, Seoul E-Land's came away to Gyeongnam thanks to goals from Kim Sin-jin, Byun Kyung-jin, and Bruno Silva while Jeonnam's was at home to Chungbuk Cheongju with Hong Seok-hyeon, Valdívia, and Kim Jong-min on the score sheet. The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw; the first of 2024 resulted in a 2-1 Jeonnam win in the capital.
Chungbuk Cheongju (10th) vs. Chungnam Asan (3rd)
Chungbuk Cheongju are set to finish 10th in K League 2 this season, regardless of what happens this weekend. However, Chungnam Asan are gunning for the playoffs and harbour hopes of finishing second, a position they had held until just last week. The Owls are guaranteed a playoff spot but could slip to fourth if they're not careful which would mean having to face the team that finishes fifth in the K League 2 playoffs. Chungnam Asan will also be aiming to bounce back from the late loss to Suwon Bluewings and regain momentum ahead of the playoffs.
Chungbuk Cheongju will be looking to finish the campaign on a high, particularly in front of their own supporters after a run of one win in five. Saturday's match will be Chungnam Asan's sixth in a row away from home. In the previous five, Kim Hyun-seok's men picked up three wins and eight of their 16 wins this term have come on the road. The last two meetings ended in wins for Chungnam Asan.
Busan IPark (6th) vs. Bucheon FC 1995 (8th)
Sitting sixth in the table and a point outside the playoff spots, it may appear as though Busan IPark do not have their destiny in their ow hands. However, with Suwon Bluewings not in action this weekend, to reach the playoffs Busan just need to beat Bucheon FC 1995. Busan would then move level on points with the Bluewings, but with 52 goals scored compared to Suwon's 46, would overtake Suwon.
Bucheon are out of the playoff reckoning but could finish one place higher with a win over Busan. The Royals will need to do something about their home form as Jo Sung-hwan's men have just one home win in their last five, two in 10, and three in 15. Incredibly, 12 of the Royals' wins this season have come away from home. Bucheon are searching for a first win in seven and a first away win since mid-September. The two teams played out a 2-2 draw in the last meeting on the south coast but Busan recorded a 3-1 away win in April.
Gimpo FC (7th) vs. Cheonan City (9th)
Mathematically, Gimpo FC can still reach the playoffs but it would be somewhat unlikely for them, considering the team's goals scored tally compared to the team currently occupying the last playoff place (42 to Jeonnam's 57). Gimpo would need to beat Cheonan City, score 16 goals, and hope that Jeonnam Dragons and Busan IPark both lose. Gimpo are on a run of five unbeaten but drew their last two matches so will want to end the season with a win in front of their own supporters.
Cheonan City, meanwhile, are set to finish ninth, an improvement on the last-place finish they recorded in 2023, and will also want to see the season out on a positive note. Gimpo are yet to lose to Cheonan and have a K League record of three wins and two draws. In addition, the golden boot race is likely to be decided at Solteo Stadium as Gimpo forward Luis Mina is currently on 14 for the season to sit two goals shy of Cheonan City's Bruno Mota who has scored 16.
Ansan Greeners (11th) vs. Seongnam FC (13th)
Ansan Greeners and Seongnam FC are guaranteed to finish 11th and 13th respectively so Saturday's game will be about trying to end the season in the best possible way. Ansan Greeners have just one loss in their last seven at the Wa~ Stadium with four wins and appear to be turning a corner under new manager Lee Kwan-woo. Seongnam came back from behind to earn a late draw last time out, ending a run of four straight defeats, but are seeking a first win in 20 with their last victory dating back to 15th June, the 3-1 win over champions FC Anyang in Round 17.
