2025 Hana Bank K League 2 Round 39 Preview

league 2025.11.20   I   hits 518

Sunday 23rd November brings the final day of the 2025 Hana Bank K League 2 season. There are still two playoff places up for grabs, with three teams still harbouring hopes of a foray into the K League postseason.

Match of the Round

Seoul E-Land vs. Ansan Greeners

Seoul E-Land are one of the form teams heading into the final day of the season with four wins from their last five. This strong end to 2025 has put the Leopards' destiny in their own hands, with a win at home to Ansan Greeners enough to secure at least fifth place and a spot in the playoffs. In the previous round, Kim Do-kyun's men earned a 2-0 win away to Chungbuk Cheongju, but they had to remain patient to secure the victory. Seven efforts from 14 overall found the target, but the deadlock wasn't broken until the 75th minute when Heo Yong-jun found the back of the net. Park Chang-hwan made it 2-0 10 minutes later to secure a hugely important victory.

Ansan Greeners, meanwhile, sit bottom of the table but could avoid finishing in last place with a win, coupled with Chungbuk Cheongju failing to secure victory away to champions Incheon United. The last three meetings ended in draws: 2-2 at the Wa~ in July and 1-1 in Mokdong in May this season, and a 0-0 in August last year.

Team of the Round

Jeonnam Dragons (vs. Chungnam Asan)

Knowing that nothing less than a win would do, Jeonnam Dragons picked up all three points at home to champions Incheon United last time out. Brazilian star Valdivia found a breakthrough for the Dragons on 64 minutes, before adding a second to double Jeonnam's advantage on 76 minutes from the spot. The win now means that Jeonnam sit fourth and with a place in the playoffs down to them. But with just a one-point lead over sixth, and only goals scored separating them from Seoul E-Land in fifth, nothing but a win will do again this weekend. Up next is the trip to South Chungcheong to take on a stubborn Chungnam Asan side. The Owls have just one loss in their last five, and held the Dragons to draws in their last two encounters - 2-2 in Gwangyang in August and 0-0 at the Yisunsin Stadium in April.

Player of the Round

Leonardo Ruiz, Seongnam FC (vs. Busan IPark)

Seongnam FC have put together an end-of-season run of four straight wins and five unbeaten. Throughout that run, Seongnam club captain Leonardo Ruiz bagged some important goals, the only goal in a 1-0 win over Gyeongnam in Round 35, and the win-sealing strike in a 2-0 victory away to Jeonnam in Round 37. The Colombian has 17 goals for the season, second in the league behind Incheon's Stefan Mugosa. Ruiz ranks fifth for total shots dispatched with 85 and second for shots on target with 36. He's yet to score this season, though, against Seongnam's final day opponents, Busan IPark. Seongnam can still qualify for the playoffs, but sitting sixth, must win and hope that results elsewhere go their way.
