As the race for AFC Champions League Elite qualification reaches a fever pitch, Daejeon Hana Citizen welcome Pohang Steelers to Purple Arena this Sunday. For the hosts, a 3-1 win over Jeju SK kept them four points clear in third place, and continued their attacking hot streak with the Purples creating an xG tally of 2.58 from 17 shots, and scoring their ninth goal in four games. Pohang, meanwhile, ran out 2-1 away victors against FC Seoul, where they created an xG total of 1.44 in what was a strong counter-attacking performance.

This year, whoever the away side is in this fixture has had the advantage, with Daejeon winning twice at the Steelyard, and Pohang defeating the Purples 3-1 in Round 16 on their home turf.

After winning the K League 1 title last weekend, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will hope to continue their momentum with the Korea Cup final still to come at the end of the year. This year, the Green Warriors have improved in every area, and rank first for goals per game (1.7), clean sheets (13), third for xG creation (51.6), and last for goals conceded (0.8 per 90). This weekend, Jeonbuk face Gimcheon Sangmu, who were emphatically beaten 4-1 by FC Anyang in Round 33.

With a brace in FC Anyang’s 4-1 win over Gimcheon Sangmu, Bruno Mota delivered a commanding performance. In addition to his two goals, the Brazilian forward took eight shots, 10 touches in the opposition box, completed five passes to the final third, and won 16 of his 22 duels. Up next for Anyang is Gwangju FC, who have lost three of their last four games.

Elsewhere in K League 1 Round 34

As Suwon FC look to try and escape the bottom three, their opposition in Round 34 comes in the form of 11th-place Jeju SK, who are winless in their last 10 games. Elsewhere, FC Seoul will hope to put a 2-1 home defeat to Pohang Steelers behind them when hosting a Gangwon FC side winless in four league matches (three draws, one loss), and Ulsan HD are out for back-to-back K League 1 victories as they face Daegu FC, a team now just five points away from a promotion-relegation playoff place following a 2-2 comeback draw against Gangwon FC.
