FC Seoul take on Suwon FC at Seoul World Cup Stadium this Sunday in Round 30 of the 2021 Hana 1Q K League 1 season. Sitting bottom of the table, FC Seoul will be determined to pick up a first win under new manager An Ik-soo. Suwon FC, meanwhile, sit third in K League 1 and are in contention for a place in next season's AFC Champions League.

Recent Form

FC Seoul are on a run of seven matches without a win and sit bottom of the K League 1 table. Last time out, the capital club drew 1-1 with Seongnam FC in what was An Ik-soo's first match in charge. Young forward Cho Young-wook opened the scoring just shy of the hour mark with what was his third of the season.

Suwon FC, meanwhile, make the short trip to the capital sitting third in the table and on a run of four unbeaten. Kim Do-kyun's side have just one defeat in 10 with seven victories and a five-point cushion over seventh place. Last time out, Suwon beat Gangwon FC 1-0 thanks to Lars Veldwijk's 15th of the season - Lachlan Jackson with the assist.

Team News

New FC Seoul manager An Ik-soo will be sweating over the fitness of a handful of first-team players. Connor Chapman, Ko Kwang-min, Hwang Hyun-soo, Kim Jin-ya, and Ji Dong-won are all injury doubts having missed Seoul's last few matches. New boss An Ik-soo opted for a 4-3-3 for his first match in charge with Park Chu-young through the centre, flanked by Na Sang-ho on the left and Cho Young-wook on the right. But, mid-way through the second period, Coach An then switched to a 5-3-2 with Aleksander Paločević deployed as a shadow striker behind Cho Young-wook.

Suwon FC will have Brazilian winger Murilo back as the on-loan Jeonbuk man missed a couple of games through injury but made his return in the 1-0 win over Gangwon. K League 1 leading scorer Lars Veldwijk will be looking to add to his 15 goals already this season. The South African international has made the most appearances out of any Suwon FC player this season with 27.

Head-to-Head

FC Seoul got their season up and running with a win over Suwon FC at the start of the campaign. On a sunny Sunday afternoon at Seoul World Cup Stadium, an own goal from Jeong Dong-ho on 28 minutes broke the deadlock before a Na Sang-ho brace, with goals on 52 and 80 minutes, sealed Seoul's first win of the season. It was the first meeting between the two sides since 2016 when Suwon FC were last in the top flight. When the two teams met at Castle Park in April, FC Seoul came from behind to salvage a late draw thanks to a 94th minute Aleksandar Paločević penalty. Lars Veldwijk had given Suwon the lead on 79 minutes. In 2016, Seoul picked up three wins from three against Suwon FC and kept three cleansheets in the process.

What to Watch

FC Seoul's build-up & the threat of Lars Veldwijk

The challenge for FC Seoul will be to turn possession into goals with the team in need of three points to move off the foot of the table. Seoul have no shortage of technicians either. Osmar is fourth for progressive passes, fifth per 90 minutes and second for passes made overall. Osmar is also fifth for passes made to the final third. Former Korean national team captain and current FC Seoul skipper, Ki Sung-yueng, is seventh in terms of progressive passing accuracy at 87.6% and seventh for passing accuracy overall at 92.23%. Further upfield and Na Sang-ho sits in the top five for second assists (the pass made to the player who was credited with the assist).

For Suwon FC, Lars has 15 goals to his name this term with an xG of 13.29, xG+A per 90 of 0.69 and xG per 90 of 0.54 (second in K League 1). Lars sits top for touches in the box at 122 and at 4.99 per 90 sits third. He is fifth for headed attempts on goal with 17 and so how Seoul stop Lars' ariel threat will be something to keep an eye on. If either side are able to find the back of the net on Sunday the goals may come in the last 15 minutes. Seoul have scored 32.1% of their goals (nine in total) in the last 15 minutes, Suwon 27.5% (11).
